Bluebonnet Season

Photo: LCRA Parks (official website)

Every spring, Austin families go hunting for the perfect bluebonnet photo. Peak bloom usually runs late March through April, but it depends on winter rain, and recent years have been uneven because of drought. The Wildflower Center is the most reliable bet. For big open fields, drive out to the Highland Lakes. Timing: Usually late March through April (peak varies with rain).

Check before you go

  • Wildflower Center bloom reports and ticket availability
  • Recent rain (a dry winter means a thin bloom)
  • Don't pick or trample the flowers. Watch for fire ants and snakes in tall grass.
  • Never stop on highway shoulders for photos with kids
  • Changes every year, so check the official links for: BLUEM date and price; Burnet festival dates; Wildflower Center spring hours and prices.
